What you need to know
About Area Rug Maintenance
Like any floor covering product, area rugs typically have specific care requirements. These will often be laid out in your rug’s manufacturer warranty, which we highly recommend you consult before attempting any area rug cleaning.
Daily Routine for
Area Rug Maintenance
Regular vacuuming is the simplest way to help your rugs retain their beauty & to extend their useful lifespan. In rooms that typically experience light to medium levels of foot traffic, we recommend that you vacuum twice weekly. In areas that typically experience heavier foot traffic, daily vacuuming may be necessary.
When vacuuming a shag rug, you’ll need to take care to protect its long, cable-like yarns. These yarns tend to wrap around the beater bars of common vacuum cleaners, and vacuum brushes can cause damage to the fibers. You can avoid this damage by disconnecting the beater bar completely. Consult your vacuum cleaner’s manual for specific instructions on how to do so. Once the beater bar is disconnected, set your machine to the lowest height setting for the best suction.
Dealing With
Spills & Stains
Spills from food or beverage should always be cleaned immediately by blotting (never scrubbing or scrubbing) with a clean cloth. You can spot clean these messes using a small amount of clear dishwashing detergent & warm water. Once cleaned, rinse again with additional clean water & blot dry using another clean cloth.
